You've been taught to be the helper, the supporter, the one who shows up to help make other people's dreams come true.
Your boss needs you to stay late. Your family needs you to manage everything. Your friend needs you to listen. Your spouse needs you to be flexible. Your kids need you available. Your church needs you to sow extra time. So, you postpone your goals. You tell yourself you'll get to your business when the kids are older. You'll lose the weight after everything settles down. You'll build your dreams on their timeline, after theirs are handled.
Except their timeline never ends.
Your Goals Don't Matter Less
The goal you're pushing away, the business you want to build, the body you want, the career shift you want to make... it doesn't matter less than anyone else's needs. It matters equally. And the moment you accept that it matters equally is the moment your life will start to change.
You are not being selfish by working toward your goals. What you're being is responsible.
When you achieve your goals, you have the more that you desire. More money, more confidence, more energy, more capacity to show up for the people who matter most. But when you abandon your goals to help everyone else chase theirs, you become resentful, burned out, and stuck until you have nothing left to give.
What Prioritizing Your Goals Looks Like
Prioritizing your goals is going to require that you change. It means saying no to extra projects at that don't move you closer to what you want. It means protecting your workout time like it's a business meeting. It's not negotiable. It means telling your family when you're working on your business or personal projects and that time is off limits.
It means spending money on yourself for coaching, courses, and tools before you spend it on things other people want.
It's going to mean disappointing people sometimes. And you are going to have to be okay with that. You cannot achieve your goals and please everyone else.
The Reality Nobody Wants to Hear
The people who love you will adapt. Your family will figure out how to handle things when you're not managing everything. Your boss will survive without you staying late. Your friends will understand when you're unavailable because you're working on something that matters to you.
The people who get mad when you start prioritizing your goals? That's tells you everything you needed to know. That tells you who was benefiting from you staying small.
The people who are really for you will cheer for you. They'll make space. They'll figure it out.
You Already Know What You Want
You know the business you want to build. You know the body you want. You know the life you want to live. You're just waiting for permission to go after it without guilt.
Here it is. Your goals are not less important than anyone else's. Your dreams are not selfish. Your success is not taking something away from people you love.
The only thing stopping you is the belief that you should come last.
Stop coming last. Build your business. Lose the weight. Make the money. Show your daughter what it looks like when a woman chooses herself and wins anyway.
That is not selfishness. It's leadership. And it's your to step into.
